We work with you and your child to promote independence in activities

Occupational Therapy

Our occupational therapists work with you and your child to promote independence in activities. This means working on skills such as fine and gross motor movements, pencil grip, drawing or handwriting, self-care tasks, self-regulation, attention and play skills. They can also provide support with any sensory preferences or aversions your child may have, such as sensitivities to sound, texture, smell or movement which may impact their ability to carry out tasks. We use a play based, developmental approach to our sessions, and believe this is key to engagement and success.

Our therapists work together with the child and their family to address the following areas of concern:

Does your child...?
  • Avoid handwriting?
  • Have weak attention?
  • Experience more than typical emotional outbursts?
  • Avoid messy play or dislike certain clothing?
  • Get sick in cars or on swings?
  • Avoid playground equipment?
  • Have difficulty performing age appropriate activities of daily living such as dressing or toileting?
  • Have inconsistencies performing daily activities?
Assessments

There are three different assessments available by the Occupational Therapy Team:

  • Full Occupational Therapy Assessment: this assessment includes an initial parent consultation, the assessment takes approximately 2 hours, a full report and parent feedback is provided
  • Handwriting: this assessment includes an initial parent consultation, the assessment is conducted in approximately 90 minutes, a report is provided
  • Sensory Processing (SIPT) – The gold standard of Sensory Integration Assessments. Parent interview, assessment time of approximately 3 hours over 2 days, full report and parent feedback meeting. Completed by Certified Sensory Integration Therapist (Occupational or Physiotherapy)
Therapeutic Approaches
